Ugh..Found an article in 'All U' today..

Agoraphobia is a Greek word that means fear of the marketplace; but its meaning in English is fear of open spaces, or even of leaving the house. The phobia often arises as a result of panic attacks. People who suffer from it are scared of going anyplace where they might have an attack and be away from help or embarrassed by their behavior. The disorder is more common in women, though experts aren't sure why. Research has shown the best treatment is repeated exposure to the place or activity that causes distress. Multiple studies have found a lasting decrease in symptoms among patients who faced their fear.
Crud
but essentially, you force yourself to do the thing you dread, over and over again. The key is to ease yourself into the situation, expose yourself to your fear for a minute or two, then add on a few minutes with each subsequent visit. For example, if you're afraid to go to the mall, first find a trusted friend or family member to drive you there and simply park in the parking lot.........
I haven't gotten near this bad yet..
Another time, go to the entrance and look in. Then come back on a different day and walk a few yards inside the building-say, to the first intersection or main hallway. Later, you can try heading farther inside, then enter a store and so on. Once you complete each step with a friend, start over and do them on your own-you must get to the point where you can do it alone to fully overcome the fear. Keep in mind that you're more likely to be successful if you use the technique while also going to see a cognitive behavioral therapist, who can keep you from becoming discouraged..

More on Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia
cozynbluehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03171879510123351363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745161598216451750.post-81332535781209159002010-12-16T11:39:00.000-08:002010-12-16T12:01:11.696-08:00Internet Job Search

Finding Your Job Online
In a job search, the Internet has much ccore to offer than job listings.
Here are some other things you can do:

Figure out what field or job is best for you

Research companies you may want to work for

Use e-mail or Web sites to turn in job applications

Connect with people who may know of job opportunities

find jobs anywhere-not just in your hometown

Use a notebook to keep track of your job-related notes and thoughts. They may have last year, but we wouldn't have known it-the local station succumbed to Pittsburgh weather and went silent for a while.
Undaunted, our seven-year old daughter Grace asked her mother Sandee if she knew the speech. Sandee said she did, and it made her cry whenever she heard the speech.
"Me, too," Grace said.
"Oh?" Sandee asked. "You heard it."
"Yeah. But I heard it when he first said it."
Sandee paused. "Dr. King gave that speech when I was a little girl, so I'm not sure how you heard it."
"I remember it," Grace insisted. "I heard it when I was with Jesus and the Angels."
Listen, I can't make this stuff up. Thing is, I'm not sure Grace can either. I wasn't in heaven in 1963- I was too busy terrorizing my parents-so who's to say? But wouldn't it make sense that they would have paused to listen? Imagine all the heavenly hosts gathered around as one man on earth made a simple, simply amazing request: that his four little children be judged not by the color of their skin buty by the content of their character.
I have it on good authority that Jesus and all the angels like that line.
-Mark collinscozynbluehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03171879510123351363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7745161598216451750.post-49656065512188209982009-12-10T18:24:00.000-08:002009-12-10T18:29:55.361-08:00

DUFUS. But when Rabbi Shmuley was 14 years old, he asked his mother to let him change schools. Once he got to the new school, his outlook brightened. "I was with kids who were more serious and loved learning, and I started learning in a different way," he says. "All of a sudden, I really started to love studying."

Rabbi Shmuley says that these are some reasons children might not like going to school:

They see no point.
It's not the work aspect of school, but that they can't see the purpose. "We, as parents, do a very poor job of connecting the dots. We say, 'Go to school so you can have a better future,' when they know tons of people who succeed without a formal education," Rabbi Shmuley says. Parents need to show their children that school is about one thing—loving learning.
They are bored.
Rabbi Shmuley says the biggest threat to children's educations is boredom. Parents should try to get children to love learning at home too." Ask yourself: Is your home a place where learning is valued?
They are tired.
Children need to get a good night's sleep. Make sure your children are getting enough sleep on a regular schedule, Rabbi Shmuley says.
They're intimidated.
Rabbi Shmuley says there's nothing wrong with taking your children into school on the first day or driving them to high school. "Make it like you're involved in it; ask them questions about how they feel," he says.
They're in the wrong school.
Finding the right school is important for children, so if they feel another school might be better, pay attention, Rabbi Shmuley says. Also, get to know the teachers and make parent-teacher conferences a priority.
They feel like schoolwork will never end.
Rabbi Shmuley thinks children today have too much work. "Take an interest in the school and make sure your children aren't so overloaded with homework that they stop loving learning," he says.
They feel like they're on their own.
Communicate with your children about what they are doing in school, and make studying more of a family activity, Rabbi Shmuley says.

Originally published on August 18, 2008

cozynbluehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03171879510123351363noreply@blogger.com0
